It is interesting that Both Christ and Satan have each
been equated as 'Rex Mundi', meaning 'King of the World.' Elvis was called
'Satan' by some in the 1950's and since his death, many have portrayed him
as having been a slave to debauchery. Yet he has also and continues to be
experienced by thousands of people as an almost 'Christ-Like' figure.
In March of 2005 I was re-reading the chapter in my
manuscript, Blue Star Love - from Elvis' Heart to Yours on
Elvis as the 'Wounded
King' (also 'Wounded Healer')-- an archetype of the Grail Legends. I saw
how the archetype of the Wounded King was an aspect of Rex Mundi,
the King of the World who is crucified on the cross of matter in the earthly
perspective, but suspended from a cross of light in the more universal
context. I saw Elvis as this more dimensional Rex Mundi as well as the
Wounded King. I then felt inspired to create an artwork of Rex Mundi
which would include the universal transformed being. One thing led to
another and I found myself doing a whole series of images with this theme in
mind for my Spirit Mythos website.Yet my
inspiration for this project started with Elvis...so here is the first art
work I did in relation to Elvis as the King of the World / Wounded Healer.
